"Taxation without representation is Tyranny"
My son Moses will be 2 years old on July 4th, 2009.
Until after July 4th, 2025, Moses will not have consent on taxation through his ability to vote for a representative.
By my modest calculations, and the projections of more seriously regarded and professionally trained economists, the national debt, plus long-term liabilities not figured into that official number (ie social security, medicare) have a good chance of not being paid down to zero in the next 16 years.
So with that in mind, how should Moses in any way be responsible for paying back that money once he is of age to vote and work?
Funny enough, it seems that the uproar over 'no taxation without representation' that catapulted America into existence as a sovereign nation committed to liberty, was over tyranny much smaller than what Moses is going to face when in the future a huge cut of his labor is taken from him without his consent. Percentage-wise, I don't think that it is too crazy to say that 20% of his labor could be taken to fund obligations that he had no chance to vote down.
The Israelites who were 'enslaved' by Pharaoh in Egypt were required to pay him 20% of the fruit of their labor.
The Bostonians in 1773 revolted by throwing tea into a harbor that had a pretty small tax attached to it- at that point virtually the only tax they were being asked to pay. Basically pennies.
Today we are talking about a huge chunk of how my son's life will be spent- how much he will have to work to fund the opulence of the generations before him and the bloated government that micro-manages his every economic move.
What must I do now to prevent my son from being sold into slavery by my peers, or is it too late?

I just wanted to say hi to a fellow Danvillian.
And I'm really pleased to hear someone else in Danville talking about tea. I'm not sure if you were referring specifically to the tea parties on tax day but I'm glad to find that not everyone in this town is content in just sitting back and taking whatever the government gives us.
You ask some very important questions. I don't have any of the answers but I hope we find them soon.
I also hope we talk again soon. Hop over to my blog if you get a chance. I talk about creativity and creative thinking.
